The Softwares I Use In My Work
Adobe Photoshop CS2 - Image Editing And Drawing
Photoshop's image processing program that uses layer when drawing. You can have one layer where the image is located, and another layer that you draw on. This way you do not draw directly on the image, and it is easier to make changes if you make a mistake.

There are also many more opportunities when you draw this way. You can remove details that are distracting while drawing others, or change the location on them if you want to do that. I mostly use Photoshop to edit images or manipulate them, as shown on the example to the right.

As you can see, it is still the same car, but the result is two very different images. The image below is a lot more action packed than the one above. That is why I use Photoshop a lot in my work. Most images always need a little extra work.
Here is a image before it has been edited in Photoshop.
And here is the image result after been worked on.
Adobe ImageReady CS2 - 2D Animation
ImageReady is a software used in combination with Photoshop to create animations. You can switch between these two applications and make changes without having to save and open the same file in two different applications. Together, these two applications is really more like a single application. You draw and prepare the animation in Photoshop, and perform the animation itself in ImageReady. To the right you can see an example on this.

ImageReady is mostly used to create short web animations. But it is possible to create longer animations using additional softwares that is able to convert multiple animated images into a movie file.
Here is a ball. It is singel dot with the brush with some effects added to it. The ball is drawn on a layer by itself. This is because Im going to move the ball up and down by using multiple frames. And here is the ball´s shadow. This is also a simple dot with the brush, but drawn with 0% hardness. Like the ball, the shadow is put on a layer by itself. That is because I am going to change the opacity on that layer.
This is a copy of the two first objects, but slightly manipulated to give the impression of the ball hitting the floor. I merged those two layers in Photoshop, since I only used them in one frame. The result was a total of 8 frames when the animation was finished. The first six frames shows the ball on the rise, while the last two shows the ball on its way down. You need fewer frames to animate the bounce on the way down, as it will appear to move faster. I also added a background layer with a gradient effect to simulate the floor.
Adobe Illustrator CS2 - Vector Based Drawing
Vector-based drawings consists of shapes that are formed by using vector lines and anchor points. The anchor handles determines how a line should loop between two anchor points. Once you have created a vector shape, you can also choose to add a contour and/or fill with desired colors and effects.
With the right set of skill using Adobe Illustrator, a whole lot of patience and time, you can make some very realistic drawings. One of the practical uses for vector based drawings is when you need a image or a drawing in many different sizes.
Unlike bitmap graphics, a vector based drawing never looses quality when scaled.

If you look at the image example to the left, you can see two 7x scale magnifications of a bottle. The one on the top shows how vector graphics behave when scaled. While the one on the bottom shows how bitmap graphics clearly loosing quality and can barly be read when scaled. Vector graphics are great for printing large scale prints or printing on certain fabrics. They may also be used by some industrial cutting tools to cut shapes into steel plates or other media. That is why most company billboards, logos and signs are made with vector graphic software. The downside with using vector graphics is that you don´t get to use some of those fancy effects you can use with a bitmap based software. By using vector based software you are sadly limited in some ways. BUT! If you do take your sweet time and are being creative, you may find a way to get those fancy effects anyway... Like most softwares there are plug-ins to find an download. They may make life a little bit better for those who like to do things the easy way.
Adobe GoLive CS2 - Webdesign
Designing websites is something I enjoy very much. I made my own homepage all by myself using this Adobe GoLive CS2 design software. Since I´m very poor at HTML, GoLive makes it easy to compose a basic website. If you want something extra special stuff done in HTML, you can simply switch to source view, paste the code and go back to layout mode.Å lage hjemmesider er noe jeg liker godt å holde på med.
So here is bit on how I buildt my site... The first thing I had to think of was a theme for my site. I choose for the colors hvite and black. Then I made this shape using Adobe Photoshop CS2 (See fig. 1 to the right). I made it in a 45x45 pixel in size, because that makes 5x5 9x9 pixel pieces of the shape. Then I added some effects to that shape (See fig. 2 to the right.) Then I flattened the image, made a grid that was 9x9 pixels and sliced up the image into 45 square pieces at 9x9 pixels. I only kept the 17 pieces shown below.
My website theme template.

With these 17 pieces I started building my site. I made a table that was 3 rows and 3 colums in size, and I then I set the image "Outher Top Left" as a background image in the left upper cell of the table, the "Outer Top" image as a background for the top middle cell and so on until I got this box (Se figure to the right). I can also make holes and frames (See figures below).

Below you can see how I build the two different frames. Each frame is a 3x3 table with a 3x3 table inside another 3x3 table. The tables has no cellspace or borders. When using an image as a background in a table cell, the image will dublicate itself vertical or horizontal inside that cell depending on the height and width of the cell compared to the image size you are using.
Setup 1 Makes Frame 1 Setup 2 Makes Frame 2
By adjusting the middle rows and columns I can adjust the size of a frame, and by adding rows and columns I can adjust the shape of the frame. I also made several color variants of my theme such as: black, red and grey to add more color to my site if needed. I can fill in with more images to create background images depending on what I want.
And thats basically how I made this website...
Adobe InDesign CS2 - Document Layouts
Adobe InDesign is a layout application for hard copy prints and e-documents. I used it a lot back then when I was still working in the advertisement business. It is very useful when you are making a multipage document with pictures and other graphics.
Magazines Folders Booklets Posters
As with all the other applications, InDesign is designed to work together with the rest of package. There is no need to convert all your workfiles to make the whole thing work. InDesign reads all the original formats from the other CS2 applications. You can add both Photoshop image files and Illustrator graphics. You can also draw using vector graphics for design or masking images.

When you are done, you can convert the workfile into a PDF -file for e-mailing to people for easy viewing.
E-frontier Poser 7 - 3D Character Posing, Animation And Image Rendering
The Poser 7 application lets you pose 3D figures and objects in a virtual scene. I like making action filled and spooky images, so this software is great for my needs. You can control alot of things here like camera options and lightning settings and plugin modules can be used for extra effects as snow particles and such.

The figures and objects can also easy be outfitted with your own custom textures. You also have import possibilities for some other softwares.
By adding props, characters and other 3D objects, you can make all kinds of fantastic images. And when you are satisfied, you can either render the scene to a finished image or work further with it with an image editor like Photoshop.

I use this software mostly to generate vehicles, people and creatures for my Photoshop images. In that way I can make several varieties of the images I need, instead if asking people for a new "photoshoot" later. Besides, it is la little bit hard to get real monsters to work with these days...
You can also make movie files if you want to. It takes a little more work and patience, but the results may turn out to be worth it after all. You can also import the finished movie file into other softwares to add additional effects for your masterworks.
